Engaged Research Paper: You will write a paper on the application of an approved persuasion theory or concept to a contemporary civic engagement topic, such as the midterm election and political issues (e.g., abortion rights, immigration, LGBTQ+ rights, threats to voting rights) or current crises (e.g., COVID-19, social media misinformation and conspiracy theories, climate change). You will submit copies of the research articles cited in your paper. A grading rubric is posted on ReggieNet. Research papers need to be submitted as Word documents and copies of sources cited as full-text PDFs through Drop Box on ReggieNet. The Research Paper should be typed double-spaced in 12-point plain Times New Roman font, with 1-inch margins on the sides, top, and bottom. Papers must be a minimum of 5 full pages, excluding the title page, abstract, references, and appendixes. A minimum of 10 outside sources should be cited meaningfully (journal articles found in Milner Library's "Communication Source" database). In cases where students seek permission to work in dyads or small groups, and are approved to do so, the minimum page count increases to 10 and the number of sources increases to 20. The paper and references must follow APA style, 7th edition.
