Climate change mitigation, adaptation and its impacts on infrastructures. (Re Objective: Climate change is the most significant challenge, facing humanity. Cities and urban infrastructures have a crucial role to play as they occupy only 3% of the planet but produce over 70% of greenhouse gases. While our cities are vulnerable to the threat of climate change, they also provide opportunities for significant sustainable measures to be implemented. Modern infrastructures, as seen in smart cities, could improve our quality of life and make our cities more resilient. The task aims to develop an understanding of the concept of climate change and its challenges. It helps the students to better describe the natural and social environments impacts upon one another and recognise the options available to decision-makers to create sustainable solutions. It also helps the students to evaluate the potential impacts of climate change on infrastructures and consider such challenges in civil engineering infrastructure projects. Scope: You are to choose a topic in which you are interested and prepare a report with a focus on climate change and infrastructures impacts upon one another.
