PART 1:

Could you answer the following questions using the research that you have done on the movement?

Could you describe the social movement you have chosen and the historical context of the movement?

I have chosen the Union that took place in SHARP Grossmont Memorial Hospital.

In what ways has this social movement sought to help create a good society (as its members would see it)?

The social movement helped create this hospital to advocate a good society for healthcare workers' rights.

PART 2:

Interviewee, Joe Coker, who participated in or witnessed the social movement you researched.

1) Can you describe any interactions or relationships you formed with other participants during the movement?

Yes, I talked and formed many close relationships with my organizations to help get others on board to move over to a union because we need someone to help be a voice for the little guys who get steamed rolled by greedy corporations.

2) What motivated you to choose to participate in the Union? My motivation was my family. I participated in the Union because of equal pay for equal work. The pay was the most critical part for me. Making a living in San Diego on such a low income is hard. I was on board when I heard that the Union could help increase my pay and benefits.

3) In what ways do you think the Union has contributed to creating a positive change in society?

Like modern-day Robin Hood, they ensure the companies can't continue exploiting low-wage workers and forcing them to pay a living wage. For that, I am forever grateful that there are people who would start to advocate for me as a healthcare worker. Therefore, I started to advocate for myself by wearing purple, representing the Union, and I also started to inform my coworkers about it after work during non-paying hours.

4) How did your involvement in the social movement influence your personal beliefs or values?

It changed how I see that influential greedy people control our world today, but if we stick together, we can regain that power.

5) How did your engagement with this movement impact your perspective on what it means to be an engaged citizen?

It showed me just how important we are. If we band together, it makes it harder to take advantage of us.
