Procedure:
Select a sample of fine aggregate that is in a thoroughly mixed and moist condition.
Dry the sample to constant weight at a temperature of 100+-5C.
Weigh a specimen of approximately 500g of oven-dried sand.
Make sure each sieve is clean before using. Clean with a soft bristle brush.
Nest the sieves in order of decreasing size of opening from top to bottom and place the sample on the top sieve.
Agitate the sieve stack for 10 minutes.
Calculations:
Calculate the cumulative % retained, and cumulative % passing for the fine aggregate. Calculate the fineness modulus for the fine aggr pyate. NOTE: The fineness modulus calculation DOES NOT include the weight of the material in the pan.
