ESOL 120
Skill-Building Task B
10% of Final Grade
Due: Thursday February 8th at 11:59 p.m. on Blackboard
Purpose:
The purpose of this assignment is to put into practice what we addressed in class regarding bias and content analysis.
Instructions:
Please respond to the questions below in full sentences. The only resources you will directly need for this task are the two postings in the assignment folder: the link to the article "Industrial Exoskeletons" and the image labelled "Pew Research Center Survey Results". However, it may be benificial for you to consult the relevant postings from this week and previous weeks. Type your responses right into this document and upload it in the submission folder. Responses should thoroughly answer questions, but not be excessive in length. Responses will be evaluated based on how well they address the necessary details, how well they adhere to technical communications principles, and their accuracy (appropriate word choice/grammatical accuracy).
Part 1
Reading Questions (Industrial Exoskeletons Article - Link is in the folder for this assignment)
What words from this article create positive, negative, or neutral impressions (choose 4 words)? These can be any category of word (adjective, verb, etc.) that you find relevant. Briefly explain why these words give you such an impression. (5 points)
What additional information could the article have included, which was not there? Was the article of lesser quality because this content was not present? Mention the purpose of the article in your answer. (7 points)

Briefly comment on the authors of the article in a manner that connects with the material we have addressed regarding bias. (5 points)
Part 2

Choose 1 possible positive outcome and 1 possible negative outcome from the image (there are two of each, so you will not select them all). Try to explain the reason (s) behind each of their polling results. Include the potential for respondent bias in your answer. (8 points)
Look at the year that the survey was conducted (at the bottom of the image). How similar might the results be if the survey were conducted now? (5 points)
Briefly state how you would have responded to one of the possible outcomes from the survey and explain why you feel this way. Do you feel as though your stance may be informed by bias? Choose one of the possible outcomes that you did not use for answer #1.(5 points)
