Essay question:

Why is human resource differentiation problematic in organisations that claim to have an inclusive culture?

When addressing this question, consider the concepts of strategic choice and human resource (HR) architecture on various stakeholders in dynamic organisational contexts.

The article Kwong, K. and Jang, S. (2022), 'There is no good war for talent: a critical review of the literature on talent managemen Download There is no good war for talent: a critical review of the literature on talent management', Employee Relations: The International Journal, Vol. 44, No.1, pp. 94-120 will help you with this question and should be included as one of your references.

To meet the requirements of this assignment, work your way through the following steps:

Step 1: Research your topic through the Western Sydney University Library. Think about the 'keywords' within your topic and try a variety of search combinations.

You will need to cite at least six academic sources. Three academic sources have been provided for you in the 'Supporting resources' section.

Step 2: Plan your essay. Your essay plan should be divided into sections and provide a brief outline of what will be included in each section. Structurally, you should include the following:

  • An introduction.
  • Three to five main points (paragraphs). You will have identified what these are during your research.
  • A conclusion.

Step 3: Write your essay. By this stage, you should have conducted all your research, as well as written brief outlines for each of the sections for your essay. You will now begin to expand on each of your brief outlines, fleshing them out and using peer-reviewed literature to help support your claims.

Hint: Refer to the marking guide under 'Assignment criteria' regularlybefore you begin, halfway through writing and again as you are finishing your draft. Turn the 'High Distinction' descriptors into questions to ask yourself about your essay. For example, consider the criterion 'Critical analysis:' Ask yourself, 'does my essay demonstrate an excellent understanding, show reasoning, self-confidence and originality?'as this is the High Distinction descriptor for this criterion.

Step 4: Cite and reference peer-reviewed literature in your essay that support your claims -you must distinguish clearly between your own words and analysis and those of your sources. This will both strengthen and support your arguments and demonstrate that you can find and cite academic literature related to a topic. Again - have a look at how 'Research' is assessed in the Assessment matrix.

Use the the Harvard WesternSydU referencing style guide, which you will find in the 'Supporting resources' section.

Step 5: Finalise, proofread and edit your essay, including your reference list.

Before you submit:

  • Use a printed copy of your essay and read out loud or get someone else to check your work.
  • Check your grammar and spelling.
  • Review your essay many times with a break in between. Often, you will read what you want to read, not what you have actually written. Allowing time in between will enable you to revisit your essay with fresh eyes each time.
