This method facilitates a clear understanding of the project through various aspects, including scope planning, schedule planning, cost planning, and risk planning. When used alongside a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), EVM can provide valuable insights and resources to help guide the project. While EVM is primarily suited for a waterfall approach to project management, it can also be adapted for use in an Agile framework. In this case, certain components of EVM, such as scope planning and cost planning, may be effectively utilized, with the understanding that adaptability will be required based on the insights gained from the Agile experience.
