. Examining Your Implicit Biases

In preparation for creating an action plan, you will first take a self-assessment of your implicit biases using Harvard University's Project Implicit Association Test (IAT). You can find the link in the lesson's resource or below.

After you find the site, please find the Project Implicit Social Attitudes registration. You can register with your email or sign in as a guest. Make sure to read the description of the research study and the security procedures that have been taken. Data exchanged on the Harvard site is protected by SSL encryption, and a secure hypertext transfer protocol (HTTPS) is used for all data transfer.

After agreeing to the terms, click "I agree to proceed." On the next screen, you will see tabs to learn more about Project Implicit if you desire. You will also see a list of 15 categories of potential bias. You will take the Disability IAT and one other of your choosing. Follow the directions on the screen for the disability IAT. At the end you will see your responses compared to other web respondents in the study. Examine your results taking note of any surprises or questions you may have. Repeat with a second IAT of your choice. Remember, that IAT is not designed to predict individual behavior but may have value in the aggregate.
