Example: "About Me Profile"
"Trees can be considered among the most amazing lifeforms on the planet and there is so much they have to teach us. They root into the earth receiving nutrients from the soil, building fortitude, and readily utilizing their resources. There is an incredible amount of strength in rooting into the earth. The roots of each tree not only utilizes this strength to stabilize the tree, but even communicates with other trees with use of this grounding.
Nearby trees are more connected than one might think. When rooted down into the earth, their roots find each other and offer sustenance and support to all those who need it. They will alert each other through their roots when any dangers are near and will give water to another in need. A deeply rooted tree is resilient and strong enough to endure difficult storms and swirling winds. With roots firmly grounded, flexibility is much more easily attained so that the tree bends and shifts as needed and is far less likely to break (Templeton 2020Links to an external site.) Identifying strength in our roots helps ground us to our past, present, and future. A roots object symbolizes something that grounds us, something that represents meaning and connectedness in our lives.
An example of one of my roots objectsis a potato chopper that my Grandpa made from a tin can.
As a child, I would use it to chop potatoes for my Grandma when making dinner together. This represents my ties to ingenuity, my Grandpa made many things from common objects to satisfy a need. It also represents my strong connection to extended family and my ability to share the world with both my Grandma and Grandpa being invited and nurtured by both genders.
Overall, this has greatly influenced the way I communicate with others."
As a personal introduction, create an About Me Profile (1- 2 pages 8 1/2" x 11") that provides the following 5 areas:
1) Personal Background (photo, and other information you might share with your future students and their families).
2) Share an image of your "roots object" and explain your connection. Mid-autumn lanterns are made from condensed milk cans.
