Executive Summary Purpose and Method This report reviews the progress of the Habitat for Humanity chapter established at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD), one year after its launch. The chapter was created to address the local affordable housing shortage while fostering community engagement among UMD students, faculty, and staff. The purposes of this report are to: Assess the progress of the UMD Habitat for Humanity chapter one year after its establishment Evaluate the chapter's effectiveness in achieving its goals of addressing the local affordable housing crisis and fostering community engagement Identify challenges faced during the first year of operation Provide recommendations for future improvements and sustainability Data for this report was collected through volunteer surveys, participation records, fundraising results, and feedback from Habitat for Humanity of Metro Maryland. Project metrics, such as the number of homes built, funds raised, and volunteer hours, were used to assess the overall performance. Findings and Conclusions UMD Habitat for Humanity chapter has made significant progress in its first year, with over 200 staff, faculty, and students contributing more than 5,000 volunteer hours. The chapter completed 3 new homebuilds and four renovation projects, providing affordable housing to seven families in need.
