Exercise 1: PCC Aggregate Standards Memo.
You are to write a memo about the standards required for the coarse and fine aggregate to be
used in the concrete for this course. The standard you are required to research is OPSS.PROV
1002. The application of concrete that will be created in the course is for concrete structures.
The Coarse Aggregate (CA) to be used is a crushed gravel with a nominal maximum size of 19.0
mm. The tests that will be performed on the CA include a sieve analysis, relative density and
absorption test, and amount finer than 75m by washing.
The Fine Aggregate (FA) to be used is a natural sand. The tests that will be performed on the FA
include a sieve analysis, and relative density and absorption test.
Find the standards that we can check and satisfy with these tests (there is a lot in the document,
but we will only be able to test a few of them). Write down the requirements in the memo for
both the CA and FA that can be found using the tests as mentioned above.
Make sure you follow the proper format for a memo (remember the first year English course you
took or research how to write a memo).
