Exercise 12-15. In Chapter 12 in the textbook, we explain how you can use a confidence interval to test a hypothesis. Imagine that you are working on a research project on the representation of women in national legislatures. You have data on the percentage of women in national legislatures in a sample of African countries. Using the data in table 12-7, calculate a sample confidence interval and use the confidence interval to test the followinghypothesis: Female membership in African legislatures is not different from the world mean of 23 percent. Decide whether you should accept or reject your hypothesis and explain why you would do so. Use a .05 alpha level and a two-tailed test. Show your work.
