Exercise Process Modification for Exercise to include preheating
To lower the energy consumption, an economizer is to be installed in the plant described in the previous exercise An economizer is simply a heat exchanger to utilize the heat from the hot reactor product which is wasted in the cooler. The heat energy will now be harnessed to preheat the feed by rerouting the hot reactor product into a heat exchanger economizer thereby reducing the utility cost. In this exercise you will preheat the feed to
Using the process simulation software
a Start the software and open your saved exercise file.
b In simulation tab,add the heat exchanger block to your existing PFD
c Reconnect the Feed stream to the inlet coldtube side of heat exchanger. Then add new material stream out of heat exchanger coldtube side and connect to inlet of the existing heater. Label this stream as "Preheat".
d Reconnect the reactor outlet stream to the inlet hotshell side of the heat exchanger. Then add new material stream out of heat exchanger hotshell side and connect to the inlet of the existing coller. Label this stream as "RProd
e Use "cold stream outlet temperature" as the specification.
f Run the simulation when all the required input is completed.
