Exercise 3(Process Modification for Exercise 2 to include preheating)
To lower the energy consumption, an economizer is to be installed in the plant described in the previous exercise 2. An economizer is simply a heat exchanger to utilize the heat from the hot reactor product which is wasted in the cooler. The heat energy will now be harnessed to preheat the feed by rerouting the hot reactor product into a heat exchanger (economizer) thereby reducing the utility cost. In this exercise you will preheat the feed to 315C.
Using the process simulation software
a) Start the software and open your saved exercise 2 file.
b) In simulation tab,add the heat exchanger block to your existing PFD.
c) Reconnect the Feed stream to the inlet (cold/tube side) of heat exchanger. Then add new material stream out of heat exchanger (cold/tube side) and connect to inlet of the existing heater. Label this stream as "Preheat".
d) Reconnect the reactor outlet stream to the inlet (hot/shell side) of the heat exchanger. Then add new material stream out of heat exchanger (hot/shell side) and connect to the inlet of the existing coller. Label this stream as "RProd2".
e) Use "cold stream outlet temperature" as the specification.
f) Run the simulation when all the required input is completed.
