Exercise 9.4 Choose a student at random from a large statistics class. Describe a sample space S for each of the following. (In some cases, you may have some freedom in specifying S.)

Definition of Sample Space: The sample space of a probabilistic experiment is the set of ALL possible outcomes.

When we do these problems, let's keep in mind that some outcomes are "listable" and some outcomes cannot be listed or let's call them "Unlistable"

Listable: Discrete sample space (Dictionary meaning: Individually separate or distinct)

Use set notation i.e. {, ,, ,. . . }(curly brackets, numbers separated by commas)

Unlistable: Continuous sample space (Expressed as a range of values)

Use interval notation (__, __ ) , [ _ , __], [ __, __), (__, __] (An interval is a range of values with a starting number and an ending number."["denotes inclusion of the end point and " ( " denotes exclusion of end point.

We will use "Inf" for soon as you read the question first decide whether the sample space is a list (ie discrete) or a range of values (ie continuous) and then write the sample space using the rules mentioned above

a)Ask whether the student is male or female.

b) Ask how heavy the student is.

c) Ask what the student's blood typewithout the Rh factor is

d) Ask how many times a day the student brushes teeth.

e) Ask how long since the student's last flu or cold.

f) Ask how many days in the week the student goes to the Gym.

g)You measure the maximum heart rate (Number of beats per minute).
