Exercise: From Intent to Action: The Planning Path

Select a specific healthcare organization that you know something about. If you are or have been employed in health care, use your employing organization. $($But whether it is your organization or another, there is no need to specifically identify it$.)$ You may use a hospital, nursing home, health center, rehabilitation service, surgicenter, urgent care center, or any of a number of other health settings. Assume you are a department manager within your chosen setting.

Instructions

$1.$ Write a mission statement for the organization, concise yet appropriately descriptive of why the organization exists.

$2.$ Consistent with the organization$$s mission as expressed in the foregoing statement, develop a statement of philosophy for your department.

$3.$ Write one major policy that supports this philosophy.

$4.$ Write two or three specific procedures that express aspects of the above policy as instructions for action $($keeping in mind that a policy is ordinarily a statement of what is to be done, and a procedure consists of how it should be done$).$
