Devising a solid plan takes a considerable amount of time and effort. If the department doesn't dedicate the appropriate amount of resources in the planning phase, the likelihood of success is greatly reduced. It is critical that the executive of any police organization have a solid understanding of the planning process. A good leader has the ability to think ahead and see problems on the horizon. If juvenile crimes typically occur during the summer month, the department should devise a plan months in advance to put together an adequate solution. By utilizing COPPS, we are able to properly put together a solid plan that will produce quality results (Peak & Glensor, 2016). Due to a number of different incidents across the country, there has been a great deal of focus on the legitimacy of police departments. Undoubtedly, many agencies across the country are suffering because of the actions of a few. I have witnessed this firsthand at my police department. We are being second-guessed by citizens and groups who once supported us. Our department, like the vast majority of others across the country, has not had any incidents that would call into question our policies, procedures, or practices. We are having to rebuild bridges that were burned because of the actions of a few. Our agency has spent years in developing meaningful relationships with all members of our community. Regardless of the validity of their concerns, it is our job to repair the damage. Please watch, in its entirety this video as I think it speaks volumes.
