Data analysis starts with organizing the collected data for qualitative research (Hesse-Biber, 2017). Through review, coding, more review, more coding, grouping, and structuring of the data to refine the information into usable elements for the research project, researchers garner information as it ties to the questions and data collected. Coding, in its most basic form, assigns meaning to a chunk of data collected (Hesse-Biber, 2017). Through the review process, writing memos concerning segments as each ties into the research topic and has derived value supporting or rejecting the questions asked, provides the insight needed to present such data to add value to the project.

Asking questions based on a research project's design follows, and data is placed within the framework to support the work. Within a grounded theory design, questions such as: What is happening? What are people doing? What is being said? How does it impact those around the person saying/ doing this? (Hesse-Biber, 2017). Relevance to the segments coded based on the values of each chunk places the data collected to establish the value of each element within the framework and continue exploring through continued data collection and review.

In a case study, participation and observation of actions create notes that are reflected on as additional forms of data are collected. Interviews, archival documents to include policy and instructions, and correspondence all provide segments to understand the processes and importance of varied actions within the topic to generate data used to understand the challenges and successes present. Cresswell & Poth (2018) cover the importance of access and rapport to obtaining such data, including ways to remain neutral when the data pertains to personal ties through continuous review and collection to step out of the picture and perform as a researcher. Perspectives obtained by someone vested in the processes bring different levels of insight, though it taints those views with personal bias.
