Fact Pattern: The prosecutor's office in a medium-sized city has a disturbing criminal case pending against Lou Anne, a prominent citizen. Lou Anne knows about it and has been cooperating with police in hopes of potentially avoiding embarrassment to her and her family if a public trial were to take place. While that case was pending, Gomer, the legal administrator of the prosecutor's office, was working on trying to find some business efficiencies to help that office function better. As part of his efforts, Gomer tested a new kind of data analysis software. Unfortunately though, he did that directly on the office's primary servers rather than on a stand-alone computer and server. That software had a glitch that not only confused the office's business records but also automatically jumped from those records into the criminal case electronic files, where it also wreaked havoc by mixing up details among multiple cases. It also jumped, carrying all of that jumbled data, into the prosecution office's public releases that are maintained on its public-facing webpage. The software did all of that before it could be isolated and eliminated from each affected servers. The net result was that all of that muddled data was publicly released
