In wild type E. coli a 3'- G-T-A- 5' triplet of DNA nucleotides is transcribed into a codon that is translated into an amino acid in a functioning polypeptide. If there is a nucleotide pair substitution mutation that swaps the adenine in the DNA triplet for a cytosine, this would result in: O there being no change in the primary, secondary or tertiary structure of the mutant polypeptide.
