FIGURE 8.3 Competing values framework
Introduction:
The overall purpose of this exercise is to allow you to sharpen your competency of self-awareness by helping you identify
your strengths and weaknesses relative to a specific job and context. Self-awareness is essential for determining person-
organization fit, which reflects the extent to which your personality and values match the climate and culture in an
organization.
Instructions:
Review Figure 8.3 Competing Values Framework (CVF) pictured above.
Research a company you aspire to work for. Your task is to find information that helps you determine the type of cu
Iture possessed by the organization. Locating the company's stated values is a good starting point.
Rate the extent to which the organization possesses the cultural characteristics from the CVF on a scale from 1(very
little) to 5(very strong). You will then assess the extent to which you value the same CVF cultural characteristics. Det
ermine your level of fit - large gaps between the numbers indicate a lack of fit.
Develop three questions you could ask in an interview with this company that would help you confirm your assessm
ent of the organization's culture. (Be sure to focus on the CVF concepts)
In your discussion post, provide the following:
Identify the organization you researched and provide your assessment of its culture. (3-5 sentences)
State your preferred organizational culture and explain why you prefer it.(3-5 sentences)
Provide an assessment of your "fit" with the organization (1-2 sentences)
List three questions you would ask to confirm your conclusion about the organization's culture.
