File Preview V ...'ve landed your first gig at a haunted house, working on the 'Test of Courage' :hallenge. In this house, stragglers periodically enter, but there's a ghost lurking in the shadows, vaiting for the perfect moment to strike fear! Your job is to create a digital logic circuit to help he ghost decide when to scare the visitors. However, the ghost will only scare a straggler if they re alone
There will be four stragglers max in the house at a time and each straggler is represented by inputs IN3, IN2, IN1, and IN0. Indicate straggler present as '1' and straggler non-present as '0'. The logic circuit should output '1' for a successful scare if any one straggler is alone, regardless of how many others are present. However, if all stragglers present in the house are together, the output must be '0', meaning the ghost won't scare them. The challenge is in ensuring that the ghost spooks the lone straggler in the right scenarios, even when there are others nearby.
Your task is to design this digital logic circuit, ensuring the ghost scares stragglers effectively while avoiding groups. A correct design will allow the ghost to maintain its spooky timing and keep the guests on edge throughout their haunted house experience! 1). Draw truth table describing the functionality of this logic block. (15 points)
2). Find the minimal sum-of-products equation for the output using any method of your choosing, show all your work. (10 points)
3). Find the minimal products-of-sum equation for the output using any method of your choosing, show all your work. (10 points)
4). Assume that the logic gates used have the same cost and performance metrics per gate. Is there any design advantage to using the prototype from (b) or (c)? Explain why or why not. (5 points)
5). Build and demonstrate the circuit that will accomplish the task. IT IS YOUR CHOICE TO BUILD THE CIRCUIT VIA SOP OR POS. (60 points)
6). POSSIBLE EXTRA CREDIT: If you build the harder prototype and explain why it is harder, you will earn +5 extra credit on the Design Project.
7). Submit a video demo of your working prototype (display every possible input combination) and all works from part 1-5 to the Canvas submission box.
You may check your progress at any time, during office hours or lab. Experimentation is encouraged!
To ensure the maintenance of clean stations and functional equipment in W138, access will ONLY be available in lab sections or office hours WITH TA or LA SUPERVISION. PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY! A DEB works best!
Although you may find and use ICs supplied by the lab, we do not guarantee that parts will always be available. You are responsible for obtaining your own hardv best with a DEB. Please see more info in Lecture Set 1 or syllabus for acquiring necessary course materials.
