Find a real-world example of a process that you do on a regular basis (i.e., get ready for work or school or an event, or setting up a machine, etc.) that involves several steps. Describe the current state and all of the element steps involved in this setup. This becomes your baseline. Identify both the internal elements (I) and external elements (E) involved in this setup process. Then discuss how you can convert some internal elements into external elements, thus reducing your setup time. Show a flow chart of the current state, which may be hand-drawn (or use software) and must look professional in appearance and be legible.
