Five RC beams will be tested under two$-$point loading using a $300kN$ floor$-$mount

hydraulic testing machine $($Fig$.1).$ A potential meter is to be placed underneath the

specimen to measure the mid$-$span deflection during the test.

a$)$ Draw the shape of the bending moment and shear force diagrams for the beam

arrangement shown in Fig. $1$a$.$

b$)$ Plot the load$-$deflection curve using the given test data for both beam types and

comment on what they show.

c$)$ Calculate the theoretical ultimate bending moment $M_u$ and the corresponding

ultimate design load $F_d$ for the beam section corresponding to your group

number $($Table $1).$
