Five years after it all started Motitech AS was named Social Entrepreneur of the year in 2017. Motitech is a company that aims to increase the quality of life of elderly and people with dementia, by combining innovative digital solutions with physical exercise.

Motitech started out as a project directed by Bergen municipality in 2010. The purpose of the project was to motivate the elderly to engage in more physical activity. The results of the project were so good that Motitech was established as a separate company in 2013. Their key product MOTiview is a motivation tool that stimulates the elderly to increased physical activity. The offering consists of a screen showing authentic videos from the local area, combined with user adapted ergonomic bikes, enabling the user to have a lifelike experience of a bike ride in new or familiar surroundings. The idea was born when an employee in Bergen municipality was faced with the issue of inactivity among the elderly at nursing homes. She realized that connecting Google street view to ergonomic bikes, or other exercise equipment, might provide a solution.

Motitech is a worthy winner in many ways. With an aging population and increased pressure on the resources in the welfare society we have to implement new and innovative solutions to meet our needs. Already today Motitech can show results, while they also have a significant potential for scale and growth of the same basic concept. Said the leader of the jury, who announced Motitech as Social Entrepreneur of the year.
