In real life we would want to be collecting more data, but time is valuable here and I want you to get a feel for the entire control chart process:

• • Define: What is to be controlled?
  • Measure: How will measurement be accomplished?
  • Compare: There must be a standard of comparison
  • Evaluate: Establish a definition of out of control
  • Correct: Uncover the cause of nonrandom variability and fix it
  • Monitor: Verify that the problem has been eliminated
• Below example for your reference. You can take your own example as well.
• Central tendency of a process (variable)
• Example: shoe size is it consistent?
  • At a shoe store determine your size for a pair of shoes. Important: if you go to a shoe warehouse instead of a retailer that only sells their brand of shoes, you must stick to the same brand of shoe like Nike, Nine West. Then select x shoes in 5 different styles in the store. I suggest going to a self-serve place since pulling all that stock will drive a salesperson crazy! If too large, measure the extra length in inches. (Bring a ruler or tape measure.) If too small, estimate the length required for a comfortable fit. Label the sample style on each column.

Attribute data count occurrences. The sample size must be large enough so that you have at least one non-confirming incident per sample interval. So, may need to be more than 10. Samples 6 1 2 3 4 8 9 10 count you must answer each of the following questions (a sentence or two is just fine): 1. What is the problem to be controlled? 2. How did you conduct your field study? What did you observe/count? Be specific. These points needs to be thought of first before data collection takes place. 3.
