In Mississippi, there is a gravel road that runs between an apartment complex and private property. The 12-foot-wide road has been at the center of a five-year property dispute between Dr. Charles Scarborough and apartment complex owner Mildred Rollins. Rollins had culverts installed along the road, but Scarborough said the road was his property and removed all the culverts without returning them to Rollins. Apparently the properties were surveyed numerous times, but the results always yielded different property lines. Scarborough had originally told Rollins she had to pay him $200 a year to use the road or he would tear up the culverts, which he later ended up doing. Scarborough was arrested, and later a court stipulated that Scarborough must pay $7,500 in punitive damages, $2,150 for the culverts, and attorney fees. However, Scarborough appealed.
