For my discussion post, I chose growing up while being socialized culturally. Parents have a strong impact on their children, both positive and negative (Chance, 2014). Operant learning starts at home. Children are praised for learning new skills and are positively encouraged to develop new behaviors. Please, thank you, and yes, sir or mam were commonplace when rearing children. However, as the parents influence the child's basic social behavior, this is also culturally related; differences can be many things; language, religion, art, and fears. The adolescent learns many of these behaviors from their parents (Chance, 2014).
I believe a loving home is the nurture of the individual's nature. The parents nurture the individual and respond to their needs; they nourish and immunize them. These actions help the individual develop healthy. Children growing up in normal homes receive operant learning experiences needed for further development (Chance, 2014).
These benefits are also limited by parental figures. Some children may only be exposed to other cultures at school for a limited amount of time. There are white, black, and Spanish neighborhoods where the whole micro-society has no other influences of race or ethnicity. This scenario could interfere with the individual's learning. In school, educational references culturally based may not be understood. Therefore, the individual would not accurately apply the concept enabling the learning of the new skill.
