For the second lab assignment in our course, you will examine the features of a popular software for relation database management: Microsoft SQL Server 2019. At the conclusion of this lab assignment, you will briefly reflect on how this popular database management software could be applied to your future career path. Directions 1. Begin by downloading a free version of Microsoft SQL Server Developer Edition, found at this link (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/sql-server/sql-server-downloads). Once the software file is downloaded to your machine, proceed to step two which contains a video with instructions on how to configure the software. Please note: Microsoft SQL Server 2019 is designed to run on a Windows platform. Because not all of you have access to a Windows machine (especially in the midst of COVID), simply watch the videos in step two if you are unable to install and/or configure the free edition. You will not be penalized for being unable to download and/or configure the software. 2. Login to LinkedIn Learning and search for the course Microsoft SQL Server 2019 Essentials Training, Watch the first five chapters of the training: Get Started Log into the Server Create Databases Table Design for Healthy Databases Structured Query Language The first two chapters of the lesson will walk you through the configuration of your SQL Server 2019 trial downloaded from step one. Again, if you run into issues downloading and/or configuring the software, simply watch the video lessons. Also, if you've never logged into Linkedin Learning using your DePaul university email address and password, refer to D2L for a set of directions. 3. After you've viewed the videos and (hopefully) followed along with your own test system, please write a minimum one page, maximum two-page short paper that answers the following questions: Given what you learned about Microsoft SQL Server 2019 in this lab assignment, how would you see this software applying to your future career? What features of the software could be applied directly to concepts we've already touched in this class? Other classes you've taken at DePaul? The paper must be double-spaced, one-inch margins on all sides.
