For this assignment, you will be assigned a partner. Contact your instructor if you havent been assigned a partner.
Individually, read through the below scenario.
Individually, practice using the pre-writing skills (e.g. outlining, audience analysis) and writing skills (style, voice, tone, plain language, direct versus indirect approach) to draft a bad news message in the format of your choice.
Switch drafts with your partner and provide feedback to each other using track changes and comments in Word. Consider commenting and editing for structure, approach, word choice, grammar, mechanics, style, tone, and voice.
When you receive feedback from your partner, consider applying changes as you deem necessary. Note that ultimately it is up to each student to decide whether or not to incorporate the suggested revisions into their final submission.
In your final submission, include three (3) documents:
the draft showing recommended revisions as received from your partner (note, if you havent heard from your partner, indicate it in your submission);
the draft showing recommended revisions as provided to your partner; and
final clean version of your letter in which you have accepted or rejected each change and deleted comments.
All documents should be submitted in Word.doc format. All documents are required for grading. Note that marks will be taken off if you do not include all the documents.

Scenario
The UMCycle Bike Kiosk is a full-service bike shop at the centre of the University of Manitoba, Fort Garry Campus. The bike shop is expanding to include a bike sharing program similar to that used by the University of Toronto Mississauga and other Canadian colleges and universities.
Bike Havens (pickup/drop off stations) will be positioned around the Fort Garry Campus and in popular areas within 10 kilometers of the University (e.g. grocery stores, parks, etc.). Students at the Bannatyne campus have drafted a petition to expand the program to that campus. Unfortunately, logistic challenges, budgets and other reasons make it impossible for the University to expand operations outside of the Fort Garry campus at this time.
As the communications team for UMCycle, your job is to produce a response to the student petition communicating your negative answer.
