For this assignment, you will be creating a "child's relationship piggy bank."

The Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning at Vanderbilt University (www.vanderbilt.edu/csefel) has a wonderful concept. They use a metaphor of a piggy bank for building positive relationships. They believe that "whenever teachers and caregivers engage in strategies to build positive relationships, it is as if they are making a deposit in a child's relationship piggy bank" and the best way to do this is by "embedding them throughout the day" (Joseph, G. & Strain, P. S., 2004).

From your readings, video viewings and lectures this week you will come across several strategies to building positive relationships with children in your care.

Research effective strategies that help to develop a positive adult-child relationship. (Your content thus far may provide assistance, however it is essential you conduct your own research also).

Do you believe positive adult child relationships help combat challenging behaviour in children? And, is it possible to establish meaningful relationships with all the children in your care? Why or why not?
