Listen to the exemplar in this lesson to help you. Search the internet for other podcasts to assist you in understanding what they are like if you are not familiar with them.

Google podcasts on a topic of interest to you to get a feel for what they are all about. Note that they have a catchy opening, good use of tone of voice, and add extras such as music or sound effects.

Keep in mind, a successful podcast is:

Keep your audience entertained.

Clear.

The speaker should use a clear tone, fluent voice, and steady, moderate tempo.

Well$--$planned$.$

Use a graphic organizer or a written copy to plan what you are going to say.

Concise.

Keep your podcast approximately $2$ minutes. Get to the point and don$$t veer off topic.

Purposeful.

This piece of communication should have a theme, a purpose, a direction, clear examples and a conclusion. State your opinion clearly and follow up with examples.

Steps to success:

Determine Your Opinion:

What are your thoughts on censorship in children's literature? This is your topic to create your podcast. Be sure to use specific examples from children's literature to support your opinion. The more passionate you are about your point of view, the better

Brainstorm:

Choose a graphic organizer or jot down notes to brainstorm ideas for your podcast. What point do you want to get across?

How will you achieve your goals while staying within the time frame?

Make a plan so that you break your talk into $$parts$($ie$.$ Introducing your topic, explaining your point of view with examples, and wrapping up your podcast$)$

Create a Draft and Practice:

Using your graphic organizer or point notes as your guide, create a rough draft or $$script$$ that will help you to articulate your plan. Have a catchy opening! Read your podcast aloud; listen for grammatical and fluency concerns. Time it to ensure you are not too short or long in length, consider tone of your voice $$ do you want parts to be emphatic, excited, stern...?

Edit and Revise:

Edit and revise as necessary based on how your oral practice went.

Choose your output:

There are countless output options for your podcast. The easiest is to record on your mobile device and upload as an attachment to blackboard. You can google podcast tools and use one of the many available for free to help you record your podcast.

Record your podcast and Submit:

Be sure to stick to the $2$ minute time criteria

Submit your file in a $.$mp$3$ or mp$4$ format.

If your podcast is a link to a site, copy and paste the link.

Don$$t forget to include music and$/$or sound effects.
