Scenario

Your company is a air cargo transportation company that owns a fleet of 48 cargo planes. These planes are based in the U.S., however they at times deliver international cargo. As a procurement specialist for this company you have to make sure you have an excellent inventory of parts. One of the most important parts of the plane is the computer chips.

As the procurement specialist for this company, you need to create the following methodology for selecting computer chip suppliers.

1) A supplier selection method. What are the important factors that you want in a supplier of computer chips. Name and describe a minimum of 10 supplier selection factors.

2) A supplier evaluation/measurement scheme. How are you going to measure and evaluate the performance of these computer chip vendors AFTER you have contracted them? Provide a score card of how you will measure this type of supplier. (This can be an MS Excel or MSWord file). Name and describe a minimum of 10 evaluation or measurement points within your scorecard.

Things to think about:

• Will the scorecard be based on point, percentages or any other form of quantitative analysis.
• How can you effectively communicate with the supplier on how they will be evaluated.
• Is the evaluation and measurement reasonable and fair.
