For this discussion post, I decided to choose an article by Deirdre Walsh titled "Congress approves funding bill to avoid government shutdown". In my opinion, it seems like the media is always ranting about a potential government shut down, but with out getting political about with it$,$ it is great to see congress and public leaders negotiate and compromise in order to avoid a government shutdown. The article explains that the U$.$S$.$ Congress decided to pass a bipartisan $12-$week funding extension, which ultimately avoided a government shut down and secure funds for government operations until December $20$th of this year$($Stones$,2024).$ I believe this article is a good example of our unit $1$ material because Congress and public leaders must compromise and communicate their short term and long term goals in order to avoid a shut down. Now I know this does not happen all the time but it is important for all business $($public$,$ private, and government$).$

Chapter one in our textbook examines one key area that are related to this article such as Organization Behavior, Organization Theory, and management. The organization behavior of both congress and public leaders can vary but in this case, they had to show strong leadership and negotiating skills in order to find common ground. Conflicts needed to be pushed aside and motivation was needed in order to avoid a shut down. These behaviors are key indicators in organizational behaviors. When considering organization theory, the textbook states that organizational theory "focuses on topics that concern the organization as a whole, such as organizational environments, goals and effectiveness, strategy and decision making, change and innovation, and structure and design" $($Rainey$,2014,$ p$.1).$ Decision$-$making is clearly present in this article because the decision was made to pass funding to avoid the shutdown. Moreover, this shows how each side must adapt to changing circumstances and balance priorities in order to maintain operational order.
