For this final 6-7 minute presentation with slide deck, you will select a pop culture artifact that either perpetuates ideology or hegemony or cultural appropriation; or that combats ideology or hegemony or cultural appropriation. Your task will be to complete an analysis of how the artifact carries out some dominant system of ideas (ideology), like racism, sexism, heteronormativity, classism, etc; or, how the artifact appears to offer a "dose" of change that ultimately reinforces dominant systems (hegemony). Then, you will reimagine the artifact so it does not repeat ideology or hegemony. NOTE: you may also complete this assignment by locating an artifact that interrupts ideology or hegemony, which you then want to remix for a new audience. Similar to the Disney discussion board, you may choose to remix Moana or Frozen as examples of Disney princess movies that deviate significantly from the standard heteronormative romance story. Or, you may choose to reimagine a film like The Little Mermaid so that it can avoid the trappings of heteronormative love stories.

In this presentation, you will:

• Define and explain ideology, hegemony, or cultural appropriation through course materials and your own words.
• Analyze how your pop culture artifact represents dominant ideas (ideology), or a slight change that reinforces dominance (hegemony), or that takes from less dominant cultures and social identities inappropriately (cultural appropriation). This should include vivid detail from the pop culture artifact (at least 2 quotations, screenshots, or clips)
• Creatively reimagine the artifact so it does not replicate hegemony, ideology, or cultural appropriation.
• Use sound structure, including a formal introduction, transitions, and conclusion
• Use a slide deck that is well organized, visually engaging, and avoids too much text.
