For this summary assignment, you will reach back and use skills you have garnered from throughout the course to solve a problem for a company.
The assignment will result in a story that you create in Tableau to explain the root cause of a problem, which will then allow company management to figure out how they should go solve the issue.
The assignment should be turned in as a Tableau file that the instructor can load and view.
Assignment Details:
You work for a composites manufacturing company which utilizes a facility in St Louis, Missouri to create composite products. The factory creates hundreds of products per day. To realize profit, the manufacturing of the products need to be high quality, avoiding rework.
In February, there were a number of customers who complained about first time quality. The company was able to determine that the products sold to these customers were manufactured in January.
The foreman was alerted, and the machinery was checked, but it all seemed to check out. The personnel do not appear to have changed their practices or discipline following the process, since they do the same processes every day. The foreman did volunteer that two winters ago there was a similar situation with quality that nobody ever figured out. He thinks it might have something to do with the cold since composites need to be created above degrees Fahrenheit, but the factory is always set to degrees and and the heat turns on each morning when the shift starts.
You have been asked to pour through the data we have to see if you can find any reason why there might have been quality issues. You have two sets of data:
Factory output data for the St Louis factory for January
Meteorology data for St Louis for January on a hunch that there might be something related to temperature
Your assignment is to do the following:
Combine the two datasets using R submit a screenshot of the R coding you used
Find a reasonable correlation between variables that might point to a cause. Try to think through some hypothesis of what that cause could be
Create a Tableau dashboard with multiple story points that can walk the company leadership through your hypothesis analysis.
