For this week's discussion forum you will be using an online Java app to convince yourself what the CLT tells us:http://onlinestatbook.com/stat_sim/sampling_dist/index.html(Links to an external site.)

First, take a look at the video in your online notes:CLT Video(Links to an external site.)

Pretend we are interested in the time it takes Penn State students to come to school in the morning. If I ask you to get an estimate for this you would probably take a random sample of students, interview them and calculate the sample average.

Now, let's simulate the sampling distribution of sample average by resampling from the population many times (say 10,000 times).

In the Java App:

Black histogram: Population distribution (Distribution of time it takes for the PSU students to come to campus)

Blue histogram: Sampling distribution ofX

You will be observing what happen to the shape, center (measured by mean) and spread (measured by SD) of the sampling distribution of by:

  1. Completing below table
  2. Comparing the means of the two histograms, /nwith SD of blue histogram, and what happens to the shape of the blue histogram as the sample size increases.
  3. Summarize what you observe in a one or two sentences.

First row is already completed for you. Please note that this is a simulation, so each time you run the simulation numbers in the blue histogram will be slightly different but should be roughly the same.
