For Week 7 you will be submitting a narrated PowerPoint presentation analyzing your current or previous employer's alignment with 5 of these principles.

Each slide should have a narration of between 2-4 minutes (maximum 15 minute total presentation). You are presenting to management and their expectations are always this length per slide. You can provide back-up information as an appendix slide if needed. For each principle, you should focus on and include examples and research to support your observations/recommendations.

Assignment Requirements

The assignment should do the following:

1. Provide an introduction on Fox Brothers BBQ Restaurant and general scenario you will be discussing to provide context for the 5 principles
2. Each slide should:
   1. Develop a scenario for each of the principles at Fox Brothers BBQ Restaurant by demonstrating the application of the principle to the issue you are investigating
      1. A scenario is a real example at the company that can be exploited for purposes of showing the principle in action. See the Hints and Suggestions or contact me if unclear.
   2. Define, explain, and demonstrate the operations principle that will work to develop a solution for this particular scenario in 2a.
   3. Define why the principle and its process have benefited the scenario you describe
      1. Make sure you discuss the cost implications to the solution.

The principles you are looking at (choose 5) are:

• Design of goods and services
• Managing quality
• Process and capacity strategy
• Location strategy
• Layout strategy
• Human resource and job design
• Supply chain management
• Inventory management
• Scheduling
• Maintenance
• You can also examine Lean Operations principles (waste, variability, throughput)

Assignment format:

• The assignment is presented as a narrated PowerPoint presentation. Supporting research should be presented.
• One slide per principle.
• Ensure professional presentation with proper spelling, grammar, etc...
• Must have proper citations and reference slide.
• Total length must be less than 15 minutes - see Announcement for tips on how to manage timing.

Hints and Suggestions:

• I will be looking for detailed answers on any of the principles you decide to use. I suggest that you consider developing an answer to this question on a weekly basis when your knowledge and work on the weekly assignment is freshest.I will be looking for the same depth to your answers on the slide set as you deliver for each of the weekly assignments.
• Please review the concepts in the chapter that you have chosen to highlight.
  • Goods and Services, I am not interested in the details of the product. I want to know how you went about gathering data, how you validated data and needs of the customers, any benchmarking that was done. If you choose to focus on manufacturing and value engineering for this topic, make sure you discuss how your company meets the 7 items in this realm.
  • Process Strategies.Perhaps look at table 7.2 to go over how the company is managing the various elements or perhaps you discuss value stream mapping and where value comes from. Perhaps you talk about techniques for improving service productivity - see Table 7.3. Then you can go over how these factors affect cost and what could be changed to improve.
  • Location Strategies.Perhaps you discuss the fictional or maybe not fictional idea of the company adding a new location or buying a company in a location and then evaluate how they go about making those choices. So you'd have to develop the various factors they look at for the particular product or service. Then you can evaluate how this will impact their decisions and any benefits they'll generate from moving.
  • Quality. See an example of what the slide should contain. This is a direct example of what we discussed. Evaluate potential problems by collecting data (fishbone).Develop a CI program in this case the DMAIC was used and the Define stage was delineated. I don't expect the full DMAIC explained. Just the Define stage is good.
  • Human Resources. It's probably best to focus on one role and then discuss the various components and evaluate how that position could be improved with the various components. See slide.
  • GO BACK TO THE BOOK TO DETERMINE HOW YOU ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS BECAUSE THE BOOK DISCUSSES THE STRATEGIC ELEMENTS OF THE OPERATIONS PRINCIPLES!!!!!!
• Insert the narration of your slides in the Notes section of the slide or on a separate Word document. See the announcement for elements I have had with recordings not working. It will help with any comments I need to develop. Learn how to dictate in Powerpoint because that will simplify the process of typing the narration. The process is easy in Powerpoint. Speak clearly and you'll need to do very little editing.
