For your independent study project, you will be creating a researched presentation on a topic that you think is an important environmental chemicalor chemical processes in the world. It does not need to be the "most" important but something that you think affects our lives in some way.

Possible topics to consider, but please feel free to choose topics not on this list:

• the depletion of the ozone layer,
• the softening of hard water,
• acid rain,
• greenhouse gases and climate change,
• DDT and bioaccumulation,
• pesticides,
• algal blooms
• smog
• etc.

Format

You may choose to present your researchin any digital form you wish - essay, PowerPoint, poster, brochure, video, etc. The file type must be supported by DropBox (convert to .pdf if possible), or can be embedded as a YouTube video in the comments section of the Dropbox submission page. Include images/diagrams to supplement your work, and provide proper references.

Expectations

Be sure to answer the following keys points in your presentation:

• What is the chemical structure of your compound or make-up of your chemical process (reactants/products, chemical equation)?
• How abundant is the chemical or how often does the chemical process occur?
• Describe the uses/properties of the chemical or describe the steps of the chemical process.
• How isthe chemical or chemical processrelated to the environment?
• How does the chemical or chemical process impact humans directly and/or indirectly?
• What are the economic impacts of the chemical or chemical process?
• What are the social impacts of the chemical or chemical process?
