For your next case study, Ms. Elizabeth Burke and your instructor have teamed up in order to create tasks that reinforce multiple concepts from Chapter 9. Both Ms. Burke and your instructor require all groups analyze mower and tractor unit sales, and mower and tractor industry total sales. The data is provided in four worksheets (Mower Unit Sales, Tractor Unit Sales, Industry Mower Total Sales, Industry Tractor Total Sales) and is separated by region (NA, SA, Eur, Pac, China, and the World). Although initially Ms. Burke preferred that each group create 24(6 forecasts times 4 worksheets) forecasts for all regions for mower and tractor unit sales, and for mower and tractor industry total sales, both Ms. Burke and your instructor agreed to require only 8 forecasts, but each forecast must use a different forecasting technique. Please read the entire instructions before beginning your analysis for each step.
The instructions for your 5th case study report include the following steps:
1) Find eight data sets (this may take some time to find plots with appropriate patterns) to forecast data 12 months ahead (Months in 2023) in the four excel files listed above.
a. A data set is defined as either the mower or tractor sales amounts per region.
i. Examples of data sets that are non-inclusive:
1. Mower Unit Sales for North American (NA)
2. Tractor Unit Sales for Europe (Eur)
3. Industry Mower Total Sales for South America (SA)
4. Industry Tractor Total Sales for the World (World)
b. Your group does not need to use data sets from all four worksheets.
c. Your group must use a different forecasting technique for each of the eight data sets selected.
i. Examples of Forecasting Techniques:
1. Moving Average
2. Exponential
3. Double Exponential
4. Simple Linear Regression
5. Holt-Winters Additive Model with no trend
6. Holt-Winters Multiplicative Model with no trend
7. Holt-Winters Additive Model with trend
8. Holt-Winters Multiplicative Model with trend
d. Your group needs to identify data sets that are indicative of implementing the forecasting techniques. The videos posted on D2L provide lengthy discussions about how to determine when to use a particular forecasting technique based on formation of the data in your plots.
