FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT 2 [100 MARKS] Read the scenario below and answer the questions that follow. A remote village in KZN has come into the international spotlight recently. Many pupils from this village have excelled in their education over the years and have successfully been accepted to study medical science and law amongst others. However, the village does not have electricity and the houses here are reliant on candle and other manual means to light up their homes. Furthermore, students cannot use computers to assist with the studies due to no electricity. An assessment by the department of energy has revealed that a solar farm will be a viable solution for the provision of the much-needed electricity for the village. The minister has appointed you as the lead project manager to manage the solar farm project and has mandated you to do what it takes to complete the project within six months. General comments Marks in the project assessment are primarily awarded for the application of the relevant theory to the requirements of the assessment. Merely reproducing theory is inadequate. The ability to undertake and reflect on research is a key component to the assessment. The assessment will be assessed in accordance with the following general criteria:1. Presentation 2. (2018:220) defines a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) as a concept of hierarchical decomposition for transforming the project scope into deliverable work elements at the highest level. Appraise the WBS of a project and provide a WBS for your project with a minimum of three levels. Ensure that each component of your WBS is evaluated in detail. Question 3 (20 Marks) Kloppenborg et al. (2018:366) defines identify risk as the process of determining which risks might affect the project and documenting their characteristics. Appraise the SWOT analysis of identifying project risks. Undertake a SWOTanalysis for your project risks. Ensure that all the risks are discussed in detail. Question 4 (20 Marks) In order to deal with project risks, strategies have been designed. Identify and critically discuss the common risk strategies. Evaluate each risk strategy by relating the identified risks for your project. Question 5 (20 Marks) The quality of the project is pivotal to the success of the project. Appraise the quality management principles of ISO standards. Demonstrate how each principle will be used in your project to ensure that stakeholders may accept the quality of the project.
