Title: Impact of Covid 19 Pandemic to the Mental Health of Selected College Students of Romblon State University Chapter Introduction This chapter presents the background of the study, statement of the problem, significance of the study, and the scope and delimitations of the study. Background of the Study The novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic is a widespread disease that has spread around the world, causing massive disruptions to everyday life including here in the Philippines.The outbreak of Covid 19 affected the lives of all sectors of society across the globe. This pandemic was first identified on December 8, 2019 in Wuhan China. World Health Organization (WHO) declared the emergence of novel coronavirus as global public health emergency (WHO, 2020b, 2020c) and the first suspected case in the Philipines was investigated on January 22, 2020 and 633 suspected cases were reported as of March 1. Lockdown and quarantine has been used as the preventive measure put in place as the action to control the transmission of virus.Quarantine is the separation and restriction of movement of people who have potentially been exposed to a contagious disease to ascertain if they become unwell, for reducing the risk of them infecting others in the community (CDC, 2017). The increasing number of patients and suspected cases, and the increasing number of outbreak-affected provinces and countries have elicited public worry about becoming infected.
