Mary Grade Mechanical Company is looking forward to produce product line and wants to hire machinists. The local union hall has advised Mary Grade Mechanical Company that machinists are segregated in one of two skill levels: basic, and expert. A basic machinist must have 6 years of experience and should produce 16 pieces a day. An expert machinist must have at least a year of experience and should produce 12 pieces a day. The Mary Grade Mechanical Company union contract calls for wage scales of $600.00 , $ 400.00 daily for the two skill levels. Currently, there are at most 10 basic machinists, and 11 expert machinists available for hire. Mary Grade Mechanical Company has budgeted $ 40,000.00 a week (5-day week) for machinists' salaries for the manufacture of the new product line. Mary Grade Mechanical Company would like to hire a complement of new machinists which will compose the highest output rate, but would like to keep both the union and present machinists satisfied by making sure that the total experience of the workers hired represents a seniority level of at least 60 worker-years.
