Fred has been avoiding Velma for some time, because he heard some rumors that she had had a "psychotic break" and was worried that Velma might be dangerous and/or unstable. Daphne has been worried about Velma because she just hopes that Velma can get back to "normal" again and not have her life ruined by whatever this "psychotic break" has done to her.
