From September 9, 2021 to February 24, 2022, Infants who consumed powdered Infant formula from abbott laboratories got sick and two died. The families reported that the death and sickness was as a result of consuming abbott powdered infant formula. The FDA and CDC carried out investigations and in May 2022, the lab result showed that the infants who had been infected by Cronobacter was not the same Cronobacter that was found in Abbott plant. Abbott did a voluntary recall of its powdered milk formula from the market in February 2022 of Similac, Alimentum and EleCare. Abbott plants were closed for a few months before it started production. During the investigation, FDA found out that there were actually traces of the Cronobacter in Abbott plants and some employees were not following proper hygienic measures. Abbott CEO spoke on its behalf and promised to take corrective measures.
