Gallup recently conducted a poll to study the perspectives on computer science education in U.S. K-12 schools. Among the students surveyed, 37% of the girls reported that they had been encouraged by an adult in their life to pursue a career in computer science, compared with 52% of the boys. The sample contained 687 girls and 715 boys. We are interested in testing whether the proportion of children who have been encouraged by an adult in their life to pursue a career in computer science is different between boys and girls.
