As your employer, Ms$.$ White had a duty of care. Any promises made by an employer to an employee that fall within the scope of his or her employment are legally enforceable. She can't rescind that promise.

That sounds like a promise based on past consideration. You did great work for Ms$.$ White over the years but that's all in the past. You need a "bargained$-$for exchange" at the time the promise is made $-$ not before. And you didn't give her anything in exchange for her promise.
