You are a summer intern for the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), which is a federal executive agency that enforces federal laws and protects civil rights. As your first Assignment, you have been asked to prepare a memorandum three topics.

a. Select an example of federal legislation that the federal government has passed in exercise of its commerce clause authority. Describe the nature of the laws, the area(s) of regulation, and provide an explanation for how and why the commerce clause permits such regulation.

b. Summarize the rights guaranteed by the First Amendment as it applies to commercial activity, and provide one specific example of corporate political speech and commercial speech.

c. Conduct research on the purpose and scope of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Provide a summary of the FTC's historical origins, its purpose, and the scope of its authorities.
