This is a suggested guide for your general occurrence assignment.

Writee your occurrence in chronological order.

Check your spelling and grammar.

Head your occurrence with the most pertinent offence ie 'Assault'

Here are some suggested headings- in no particular order, as long as it makes sense, except start with "Background" first (if it is necessary) and then "Synopsis":

BACKGROUND:

This is used to describe prior relevant occurrences, such as on going complaints, relationships between the victim and the suspect, such as domestic situations.

SYNOPSIS

You tell the story of the incident here, in detail. Remember cover your facts-in-issue and your who, what, where, when, how.

Stick to the facts and how you know them, ie the witness observed the suspect throw a rock at the vehicle and it broke the front passenger window.

Included how the event occurred, who was involved, how evidence was located and who located it. Paraphrase pertinent victim, witness, or suspect statements, eg the victim relates that the suspect said to her that he would kill her.

EVIDENCE SEIZED:

Give details of evidence seized or photographed.

INJURIES:

Describe in detail the injuries to the victim(s)

ATTENDED:

Who of importance attended the crime scene, such as the Forensic Identification (FIS) officer's name, badge number, and unit. Always include other officers' badge numbers for easy of identity.

SUSPECT(S):

Who committed the crime.

Name, DOB, address, description, and other important information regarding the suspect. VICTIM(S):

The victim of the crime. Generally there will be boxes for this but put their name, DOB and contact information.

COMPLAINANT:

The person who reported the crime but is not the victim.

Generally there will be boxes for this but put their name, DOB and contact information.

WITNESS(ES)

Generally there will be boxes for this but put their name, DOB and contact information.

FOLLOW-UP:

What needs to be followed up, such as video needs to be picked up or a location canvassed. NOTIFICATIONS:

Who did you notify about this incident that is important, ie your supervisor, a detective, FIS, etc. Use their title, last name and badge number and unit, ie Det. Jones #1234 of the Hold-Up Squad or Dr. Smith of the Coroner's Office

GENERAL OCCURRENCE EXERCISE

You are a police officer with the Toronto Police Service and you are assigned to call sign 4201. You have been dispatched to a robbery call at Centennial College at 941 Progress Avenue, room D3-08. The complainant is, Quincy Arthur. For this report writing exercise, please make up a home address and date of birth for this complainant. Please use the date that you are writing your occurrence as the offence date and choose a time of the robbery as well as a time you attended the scene.

4201, 4201 can you attend Centennial College at 941 Progress Ave. for robbery. A male complainant, on scene, advises he was assaulted and robbed. The complainant has locked himself in Room D308 from campus Complainants. Name is Quincy Arthur. 4201, 1-4 mark me on route. And 4201 on scene. Hi, quincy Arthur, hi yh its me. Im from toronto police can We just talk over here, yeah yeah, sure. So I Understand you called about a robbery. Yeah, yeah. It happened like, I don't know like 30 ish minutes ago. OK. Alright. You OK. Do you need ambulance No, I'm good. tell me what happened? Well. Alright, so the beginning. I was helping a student out with an issue like just maybe down that hallway over there, but then I remembered I probably forgot my laptop in here, so right like 5 minutes and passed between the time I remembered and when I was helping that student. So I came back. And when I open the door, I saw this random guy. I have no idea who that guy is. He wasn't part of our class, but he was taking my laptop and putting it in his bag, right? So I asked him. What are you doing? And he said, yeah, I'm just putting my laptop in my bag. And I told him, well, that's my laptop, what are you doing? Right. So at that point, he didn't say anything, He just started shoving the bat, the laptop in the bag, right. So I put two and two together for what was going on. So I started running towards. Him to like, kind of stop on his way. He just pushed past me right then, like as he's getting past me, I grab the bag, right? I grab the bag to try and stop him, make sure he doesn't get away with my laptop. Then he starts to punch me, hit me in the chest. He got me in the shoulder and arm. I think he got me in the ribs a little bit, too. After that. Like struggling for about maybe 30, 15 seconds and then he just dropped it, whatever reason. I've no idea why, but he dropped it and then he had it out the class. He tried to start a follow him but then I decided I'm not going, not going to push any further. I saw him. Made a left down the hallway and that's it. But that's the bag right there. I think that's his cell phone. Cell phone was on the floor, so just put it up here and then there was that. That's what I didn't know he had on him,( THERE IS A KNIFE I ATTACHED THE PIC ) but he apparently dropped. Because when I came in the classroom the first time. That wasn't there. I just notice that was grab my laptop in his bag and I just wanted to stop that from being taken. It got lots of information on it. OK, I just want to actually get a description to the officers on the on the road. How long will this happen? So this happened like around this time 30 minutes ago, Yeah, 30 minutes ago, 30 minutes ago. Alright. And. Describe to me what the person look like. Alright, so. Mail. Southeast Asian. Short, black hair. He's got Golden go teeth. I think he's got a tattoo on his hand. One is that, yeah, it's got a tattoo on his hand. He was wearing. Those blue, puffy jackets. You know the big, big puffy jackets. Black pants and white sneakers. OK, alright. I just want to take you back on the scription here a bit. How tall was he? 6 foot. Round 6 foot. OK. And what kind of building did he had? Or weight? I want to say medium build. And you mentioned he had a tattoo on his hand do you remember which hand is it was on? He right hand. Describe that tattoo if you can? I couldn't see it like while he was hitting me, but. Before, when he was just putting things in his bag, it looks like one of those card shapes, space or something like that. I could be wrong, I don't know. It was having very fast. I don't really see that, that finite detail. It looks something like that. And how old was this person? I don't know. But he had a full beard But I think he's like anywhere from 21 to 35. I guess. Alright, and. So you mentioned he hit you. Describe that to me in more detail. Alright, so. He was will The actual incident happened like right here in front of this desk, right? He was holding back onto the bag with his his left hand, right, he was holding on. I was holding onto it with my right hand. Back, right. And then he was, he just pretty much. Hold it a little bit further or closer to him and just use that to start hitting me in the chest. He got my shoulder, hit me in the ribs couple times and then. Whatever reason you just stopped and just just left, right, I think it's probably 'cause I was just yelling for someone to help. OK, and so your swing with your right hand, is that the hand using Yeah, this right here and you touch your right side, Is that where you got struck? Yeah, my right shoulder. OK. And you point your midsection is yes, It hit me in the chest, a little bit in the ribs. He hit me in the centre chest. That's not too bad and ribs are kind of feeling but I'll be I'll be good. I don't need anybody to look at me good. Got me in the shoulder a couple times but that's that's that's fine. I'll live. OK And you mentioned you yell for help Did Anybody come? I think one person did, Yeah, that there was one person. I think her name was Lisa Baker. She came in like a little bit afterwards and then she ran away. OK, And how do you know Lisa? I don't know. She had a name tag. I don't know where she came from. She had some name tag Lisa Baker, but it might be her name. But that's what I figured that her name is. So do you think she was a student here at the college? Maybe, Maybe she might be student. Professor, I don't know. How old was She ? she was like I wanna say mid 30s. Alright, just hang tight there is going to description over for the other units? 4201 to dispatch. Go ahead. 4201 I have a suspect description. We ready? 10-4 So the suspect description is is going to be a male Southeast Asian. 21 to 35 years old. 6 foot tall, medium build. Short black hair. Full black beard, but with the golden goatee. Has a tattoo on his right hand, possibly of a spade like in a card. And he was wearing a blue puffy jacket. And black pants. And white runners last seen leaving the classroom here blocked me 30 minutes ago. 10/4. 10- 4 And dispatch can you have a supervisor attendance robbery to disconfirm robbery? 10/4 I will advise them ones available, Thanks .
