Genetic Algorithms and selection pressure?

The higher the selection pressure during parent selection in a GA, the more likely good solutions will be selected to have children. As these children are then likely to be of high quality, they will also have good children, and so on. Following this rationale, it might seem logical to always use a very high selection pressure. Where is the failure in this logic?
