GEOG $129002$ W$2024$ Assignment: Prepare a development plan for a small city, town or small region within a province or territory in Canada for $2050.$ Working in $5$ teams of $8,$ imagine that you are responsible for creating a new development plan for a small city, town or small region somewhere within Canada, maximum population of $100,000,$ and in the territories, any city other than the capital cities may be selected. You are responsible for attracting new industries and new immigrants to a region within a province or territory in Canada. Prepare a $10-15$ minute presentation explaining your development plan for your chosen region in $2050.$ Identify the kind of industry$/$ industries and immigrant you think would be the best fit for your plan and support your assertions. Your development plan can deviate from existing development in the region; but should be within the realm of possibility. Explain the goals of your focus and the benefits for industries and immigrants of coming to your chosen area: the physical environment, cultural, economic, and political structures. Be sure to explain the methods that you would put into place to help attract, establish and keep new industries and immigrants in your chosen area for the long term. Explain how you could afford these ideas as a reasonable budget line item$-$ look up the city, region, provincial and federal budgets. Be creative in your presentation but remember that all the information must be factual and$/$ or reasonable. Use the information regarding regions from Statistics Canada, as well as the provincial and municipal governments. Locations will be chosen in class$-$ every group must select a different region. You will be submitting any powerpoint slides, or other presentations software creations, but no additional written reports are required for this assignment.
